Better At Palm?
A look at changes at Palm, and how it might improve the Treo line of phones.
Is it getting better for Palm? Apparently so, as today it was announced that the mobile device manufacturer sold a 25% stake in itself to Elevation Partners, a private equity firm who counts as one of its partners Bono, the lead singer of U2.

You Don't Know Jaq
Trying to competeBuying an unlocked smartphone also gives you access to some very nice devices, such as the powerful Nokia N80 and the colorful Palm Treo 680. The i-mate JAQ attempts to distinguish itself in this increasingly crowded field of consumer-oriented, unlocked smart devices—and completely fails.

A Satisying Thumb Keyboard
I don't really care for the Palm Treo PDAs, as they seem to be too much of a compromise on both a cell phone and a Palm, so I haven't tried the keyboard on one. My love of gadgets drew me to the Sharp SL-5000, having seen one that a friend had. Well, I got tempted by eBay again, and bought an SL-5000 to play with. It really is a Linux PDA, complete with text boot messages and X-Windows. And the button panel slides down to reveal a thumb keyboard. Now I don't see this replacing my Palm T3 anytime soon, but it is fun playing with Linux on the go.

Blackberry Alternative?
It seems as though a solution may be on the way, however, from a company called Berggi. They have developed a way for cell phone users to send and receive emails through the phone that they probably already have. According to the Berggi site, the service will work with inexpensive phones, even those you might get free with your plan. The service will not, however, work with a Blackberry, Treo of computer style phone.

Treo 750 In USA Before Christmas
Good prices on the Treo 700wLack of Wi-Fi in Treo 750 is an embarassing ommision for European market where unlimited flat rate mobile Internet is not available, but in USA it is not so important because all wireless carriers in USA offer unlimied mobile Internet access… However lack of HSDPA will not be acceptable and since Cingular has just rolled out HSDPA (fast version of UMTS) network in USA and T-Mobile USA has some reservations against Palm smartphones, the only logical conclusion is that Treo 750 will go on sale in USA with HSDPA support pre-installed. HSDPA upgrade for Treo 750v that is on sale now in Europe is still not available officially although Vodafone is operating HSDPA networks since March 2006 already…

Trying Google Reader
TreoI’ve been trying Google Reader for the last couple weeks, and I really like it. The interface is very clean, and it’s taken very little time to get used to as my primary feed reading app. There’s also a mobile version, which renders very quickly on my Treo.

Vodafone Palm Treo 750v
An easy-to-use keyboard on the Treo 750vHowever, like all latest Palm Treo’s the Treo 750v is also featuring a QWERTY thumb keyboard which makes it - potentially - a great messaging device.

The MIA
There are a lot of devices and gadgets in the world, and a hell of a lot of them are focused on one thing: feeding you information, up to date information, about the world. I’ve a concept for a device to combine all of these, a Mobile Information Aggregator. How about a device that does it all? Moreover, with a HUD? I was thinking a small but fully functional computer; with a built in cell phone. Particularly, I want the mobility of my Treo but the flexibility of my Mac. Instead of a watered-down OS on a tiny screen, a full fledged OS on a full size screen - on your HUD. I’ve envisioned something similar to the myvu personal media viewer, but more integrated with the system I would think.

Surveillance
If you need a digital surveillanceI peeked in on my napping daughter the other day though I was miles away in a mall parking lot. I was testing the remote capabilities of the LukWerks Digital Video Surveillance System, using Palm Treo 700w and Motorola Q smartphones to access a video camera pointed at her crib.

Managing Your Calendar
While I settled on 30 Boxes a few weeks ago, I’m liking KIKO’s features. I haven’t signed up yet, but KIKO has some incredibly appealing features, good for the global traveller. For example, I’m on the go enough that I splurged recently and replaced my standard cell phone with a PalmOne Treo 650 smartphone. According to KIKO’s specs, I can store a number of events, then have it email or message my Treo as reminders.

Treo 650 Cake
If you were ever so hungry that you could eat your phone ...
I couldn’t believe what I was seeing when I saw this. Not only is it a huge Treo 650 cake. Whic, probably would have won him the competition anyway. But, it has an LCD screen in it and buttons AND accepts Smart Cookie cards. Amazing amazing… He deserves his prize, and he can probably design more “Smart-Cakes” if there’s enough demand.

Origami
Will the Microsoft Origami products provide enough improvement over handsets like the Treo 650Will it be what I need to deliver an ‘almost as good as a laptop’ mobile experience? I have the Treo 700m and several laptops that contain my day-to-day business info. I juggle my life between these devices, and I need a go-between.
