iPod, Schmi-Pod...
In the middle of an iPhone rant, an admission of owning a Razr.
I have the Motorola Razor and still cannot figure it out... I can call and I can check VOICE messages... even somewhat text when I HAVE to, but shit, I hardly use any of its features.. I don't need to... Remember, it was not 20 years ago when we would actually leave home to go to work or school and actually not be able to talk to anyone until we got to our destination... we had to pay for long distance calls... there was not wide use of emails... you had two numbers, home and work and both those had voicemail... we were not pissed about dropped calls or not being able to check email every 5 seconds

Yahoo Blow 2.0
Trying to make Yahoo Go work withNext up, I tried downloading the new Yahoo Go 2.0 application. You have to download it from your operator by submitting your phone number and then they send you the URL via SMS. Unfortunately I don’t use a RAZR or Windows Mobile. Looks like Symbian isn’t supported and if I missed it somewhere, my guess is that others have as well.

Motorola RAZR V3M Videos
Nice write-upJust got a new Verizon RAZR V3M phone and being how I am I have to see what I can do with it. The is no Java on this so I’m pretty much stuck with BREW which means I’ll have to buy apps off of Verizon’s service. Bummer since there is a lot of good Java apps for this phone available. Verizon has done a lot of things to make the phone as non-customizable as possible, less for them to worry about with support (curse the world of idiots!).

Great Innovators
I’m reading Dealing with Darwin; How Great Companies Innovate at Every Phase of their Evolution. My biggest take away so far is that incremental innovation doesn’t pass muster. But that’s exactly the kind of innovation our industry has prided itself in so far — the nice protect the status quo kind of innovation. You have to go bold or go home; creating a breakaway product with a clear value proposition that cannot be beat. The IPOD and Motorola Razor are the latest example. The last time anyone in the newspaper industry did this was with the launch of USATODAY.

Review: Motorola V3i
The RAZR V3iIf I were truly hip or lived in Southern California, I would have been one of the first people on the planet to own a Motorola RAZR V3 cell phone. Having neither qualification, I waited until Motorola fixed some issues with the phone and picked up what is, essentially, v1.2 – the RAZR V3i. Apparently, this phone is scheduled to be offered by Cingular, but for some reason is still not available through them. It is readily available, however, in unlocked form from many vendors on eBay and I’m sure through other dealers as well.

Motorola LZZR Not Anticipated
After the RAZRSpeaking recently to someone who claimed to be a representative of the company I managed to extract the following: there are no official plans to release Motorola LZZR, nor there are similar plans concerning Motorola VZZR or Motorola UZZR models. The marketing practice of inventing silly and embarrasing names that started with Motorola RAZR (especially Pink edition) and continued with Motorola PEBBL, Motorola ROKR and Motorola SLVR (Motorola SLVR Red in particular) will however continue.

We've Got Winners!
On changing cell phone plans.
Even with a 1 year contract, I spent less on the phone (by about 50%!) than I was going to at Nextel, and my monthly plan? 1500 anytime minutes for 39.99. I’m a happy camper. Only trouble is I know my i730. I know all the hacks, and now I have to relearn them all for the Razr. Fortunately, I already found a few good forums, and by the end of the weekend, it should be tweaked just the way I want it. (which, in addition to other things, means my ringtone needs to be 5150)

Opera On RAZR
The Opera browser on the Motorola RAZRDespite the sluggish button response, which could be the Moto RAZR more than anything, I’ll definitely continue to look forward to what Opera’s going to do. I still continue to use this single app more than any others on my phone. What’s next Opera? I’m curious to see further development of the “Browser-to-SMS” feature that they noted in their release. It looks like it requires work on the Content Publisher side to enable special processing for the Opera Mini so that a step in the SMS to purchase flow can be eliminated. Looking forward to it!

RAZR Falling Apart After Nine Months
An unhappy owner of the Motorola RAZRThis is the second Motorola phone I’ve had that has gone bad in less than a year…the 2 Nokias I had prior lasted over 2 years each. Thankfully I have a backup cell I can use (just swap out the SIM card and I’m up and running…one of the few things Cingular has going for their service), but it’s still a total PITA.

Current RAZR File Transfer Theories
Some file transfer problems with the Motorola RAZRSince I wrote my previous article there have been some significant developments in the Verizon file transfer saga. It now appears that my initial report is wrong. Motorola Phone Tools and OBEX are not working for everyone. If your phone had the previous .02 firmware, the firmware which Verizon accidentally left OBEX on, and you upgrade to .04, you will retain Phone Tools transfer and OBEX. However, if you upgrade from .03, the firmware which Verizon stripped the OBEX code, you will not have file transfer capabilities.

Motorola RAZR Still Dominates US Market
Here's the whole story:
Merrill Lynch has carried out another of its interesting shop visits, taking in 80 stores in 4 USA regions. Following their store visits, they are maintaining their own estimates for handset sales, which do tend to be about 10% above industry expectations. Both Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel are expected to add 1.6 million customers each in Q1, with Cingular picking up 1.2 million and T-Mobile around 950,000 new customers.

Why would anyone want to be like Steve Jobs?
I’m not sure where Zander gets the idea that people are copying his phones. The slim RAZR has been a big hit, but what exactly has Motorola announced early and had someone else copy? Anyone? Maybe it was the recent rumor of the Apple iPhone and photoshop’ed product shots.

Motorola i870
A round up of Motorola i870I just have never liked the Push-to-Talk.The phone certainly is a bit bulky. Given Motorola's spate of success with RAZR, you would think they will continue to use the slim mantra again, but the i870 is nowhere near that. It has Bluetooth capabilities as well. The highlight of the phone, of course, is Nextel supported Push-to-Talk.'

Upgrading Phones With Orange
Even in Europe, the carriers are making it too hard to get the handset and the service customers want.
We hit a snag with this plan at the store, though. This year, Orange have changed the way they do upgrades for TalkShare customers. Each handset is now graded separately, so Sam’s handset doesn’t get the same free upgrade options that mine does. The cheapest way of doing what we wanted to do worked out as getting the M1500 for £50 on my line, but the RAZR on Sam’s line would be £150. Too expensive by a long way.

Pink RAZR Out Of Stock!
Pink Motorola RAZRClick through for more pictures and fun post on purchasing a handset.Ya lah ya lah i very fickle minded lahh! Instead of a Motorola RAZR V3 in Pink, i bought a ROKR E1. Few reasons, the M1 guy keep saying how pathetic the V3's memory space was a exclaimed that the ROKR had a spanking amount of 513 MB blah blah blah with iTunes (duh! i know! Madonna told me herself!) and in the end, he told me, "Sorry, Pink V3 no more stock." KAO! But i die die oso must get a phone that night, so i chose a ROKR and bought it at $168++. And i THANK GOD for not letting me buy the Pink RAZR cos XiaXue has one already. People are already saying what a copy-cat i am already. With the phone, it'll only make things more complicated. UGH!

Pink Pink Pink
The Pink Motorola RAZRSo when the Pink RAZRs landed in this same sunny island, it was obvious I would rush out to get one of the most awesome phones in the world. The first time I saw this was when Geoffrey Frost (who passed on) showed it to us at GBF2004. It was sleek, gorgeous and cost a thousand bucks. After which the price dropped and dropped whilst I saw people turn up in various phones, but apparently Nokia is still the market leader although its share has dropped from 70% to 33%.

I Got A New Phone
Happy with a new Motorola CDMA RAZR phone.
Or maybe it's just the water in Hattiesburg.I really can’t say enough good about this phone. The signal quality is great. My provider roams on CellularSouth and Verizon Wireless towers where applicable, so my 1000 minutes are used whereever I damn well please. There’s no more AMPS on this phone, so analog is a thing of the past for me. The v710 would frequently drop to AMPS whenever I was driving from Hattiesburg to Jackson… now that doesn’t happen. It drops over to CellularSouth for it’s roaming when it loses ‘true’ Alltel.

Who Needs The ROKR?
Come on now.. we all know the 100 song limit on the new Motorola ROKR is utterly ridiculous. Heck if you really want an iPod merged with your mobile phone, then you should investigate what the folks over at Apparent Horizons did - duct tape an iPod nano and a RAZR phone together. You get more disk space AND you get a cheaper solution too. Go figure

The iPod Nano
I think it'll be a toss up between carrying an iPod Nano and buying a new rokr phone.
Well, I think I returned the last phone calls and I finally got to spend some hands on time with the Nano. I won’t bore you with the functionality, as after all, this is an iPod. If you’ve seen a white iPod with a color screen, than you know what the functionality is. There’s a few cool tweaks to some of the apps and the addition of a screen lock and a new stopwatch but the real story is form. That doesn’t mean that function isn’t there. This is 100% iPod and it synced without a hitch (although I’d love to see AutoFill work on all iPods smaller than my music collection) and worked as an iPod should. That’s important since form shouldn’t come at the expense of function. But if you like form you won’t be disappointed, in particular if you’re a fan of products like the RAZR. If anything the product almost seems too small. I’ve been asked how well it works and haven’t found size to be an issue at all with the click wheel and the UI. It also looks more fragile than it actually feels. I’m still amazed at the miniaturization. Even given the move to flash, there’s a lot crammed in here and that has implications as well. When we talk about form factor at Jupiter, we define it into four distinct spaces.

OOOOH YEEEEAH!!
Ready for a fun adventure!
I am in such an awesome mood that I feel I could just do tumble sets across the globe. Remember that super cool Razr phone I bought? Yeah, well one of the fused plastic hinges broke. Yeah, that sucks. You know what sucks even more though? The fact that I get to go into my service provider tomorrow and go up against the intelligence of one of their employees. Oh yes, I get the exciting adventure of waiting anywhere from 2 minutes to 2 hours and then having those superior beings tell me I must have dropped it off of a 3 story building or have them tell me my super human strength in my whimp muscles just snapped it like a twig. Shitty product? No way. Just look aside the fact that the only time I leave the house is to either run errands, go to the gym, or hang out at a friend’s house (in which I rarely remember to bring my phone). Nope, they’ll convince me otherwise that I have a vigorous schedule that allows me to break cell phones like it’s going out of style. Ooooh I can’t wait!

The Right Handheld
I agree with this blogger ... don't try to make the handset do everything.
So, as most of you know, I rebelled against my smart phone roots and went for a basic phone this time around, grabbing a Motorola Razr. Why? Because it is a phone. I always have my 12-inch Powerbook around when I need to do any of the things a full-on smart phone does, and I liked the sleek small form factor of the Razr.

Razr V1150 Spotted At CEBIT
My Best Buy contacts tell me all the 2.0 megapixel phones will be out by Christmas.
Someone, pinch me. It's only little over a year since my yawns were growing increasingly more frequent in conjunction with Motorola product launches, and all of a sudden the handset maker is churning out objects of lust like there's no tomorrow. At CeBIT, the company unveiled the V1150, which is essentially the RAZR V3 - with 3G, a 2 Megapixel camera and all the other goodies found in the V3.

Phone Swapping
First things first, let me get it straight that I didn’t actually choose this phone (I would have probably got a k750i so Ill swap if anyone wants to). I didn’t even see it coming. Dad just came home carrying a box of phones and accessories and there it was. You see, my mother and sister are on plans and now that the plans have run out- they get new phones to replace their 18 month old 3315’s as retro as they are (I have 2 and a half of them to get rid of if anyone wants to buy one). Anyway, as it happens, mum doesn’t need (or have the ability to use all the features of a new phone so I traded my 3100 and a few houehold chores for the new razr v3.

Just Got A RAZR V3
I just couldn’t resist any longer. I threw caution to the wind and bought a Motorola RAZR V3 (Black) for myself. Everyone said that it was a beautiful phone with wonderful construction but had terrible operating software. After using it for a couple of days, I’d have to say that they are right about the construction, but the software is just fine except for the address book. It has only single-letter searching, which makes a long list a bear. Also, if you have multiple entries (emails, phones of the same type, etc.) for a person there is no way to differentiate (that I have found) between themSpecial Edition Black RAZR V3

Good catch on a cool new Motorola Cell PhoneIs the new Motorola PEBL mobile phone coming to T-Mobile? The folks over at PhoneMag.com believe that it just might be! Now I have to admit, I like the PEBL design. I’m not sure what it is - perhaps it’s the rubberized design .. or perhaps it reminds me of a Star Trek Phaser.. or perhaps it’s because it doesn’t look like a RAZR.

Motorola Sliver Scalpel
Look for the Motorola Scalpel and Sliver coming out before Christmas.
The new quarter-inch-wide phone is his weapon of choice in Motorola’s bid to overtake archrival Nokia Oyj in its strongholds overseas. About half as thick as the pricey Razr phone U.S. customers embraced last year, Scalpel also incorporates the “candy bar” shape of almost all of Nokia’s models.

New Mobile!
Lots of posts on how much people like the RazrI got a new cell phone today — the amazingly badass black Razr. Since Cingular follows the usual cell phone industry practice of offering the worst deals to their loyal customers, I didn’t renew my contract with them — we found a new-customer deal that was far, far better. As a result, I’ve got a new mobile number. If you need that number, send me an email.

The Razr Tune
That is a catchy tune in the V3 ad.
As I’m sure many of you will have seen, Motorola have quite a funky new ad for their new phone, the motorola razr V3. The track played in the ad is called ‘Hyped-Up Plus Tax’, by Dabrye (pronounced ‘DOB-ree’) and, despite being a little monotonous, is one hell of a tune when cranked up loud.

iTunes Phone?
Is this the iTunes phone? To be honest, we won’t know until we know (and we’re leaning towards this being more of a concept design more than anything else), but check out this mocked-up image of a handset sporting an Apple logo and the makings of scroll wheel that popped up in a presentation that Motorola execs recently made to analysts from Morgan Stanley in Beijing.

Feature Creep
It is interesting to see a growing resitance to the feature-creep that is central to mobile phone marketing. I’m sure there must be some folks who use all the features on their new mobile phones (as part of their careers in espionage or satellite navigation perhaps), but they are lost on me. At the risk of of sounding extremely non-geeky, I only use my mobile phone for voice and on rare occasions SMS communcations with a handful of people (and these days I’m literally talking about a number you can count on one, maybe two hands).

Exactly The Same Thing As A Treo From Earthlink
I recently found some websites where, for a small fee, you can unlock your cell phone. Very convenient.
Bryce Howitson suggested an unlocked Nokia 7280. The 7280 fills all my requirements, though I’m not quite comfortable buying an unlock phone off eBay…yet. This left the Motorola RazR and the Treo 650 in the running. Emails with T-Mobile customer service confirmed neither are available through them.

Antenna Booster and the Razr don't Mix
I ordered some extra accessories for my new Razr phone, and one of the bonuses included was an antenna booster. Since I live at the bottom of a hill, and don’t get great reception on any phone, I decided I’d give it a try. However, after installing the antenna booster, it seemed like I had even less bars throughout my house (and I only had one to begin with). This afternoon I removed the antenna booster, and so far I’ve manged to get my one bar back, but my reception in my house still isn’t that great which has so far...

New Moto RAZRberry = PTT VoIP?
I read some interesting comments on Andy's VoIPWatch regarding a potentially new cel device from moto.
This new RAZR-thin EDGE enabled cel phone could very well inlude Push To Talk VoIP making use of the EDGE layer on the network. Very cool! I hope it's not as big and bland as it looks ;)

Skin It
If you want to add some color to your gadgets to add that extra personal touch, check out SkinIt.com. These guys were at E3 and had a real nice setup that included all their custom made vinyl designs for Mac, PDA, MP3, Cellphones and Game devices. You can even upload your own photos. They were kindly handing out skins to their visitors which was really nice. I got two one pink (because no one else wanted them) for my PSP and one Blue. I am really diggin it! I know some of you have been looking to personalize your RAZR, TREO and even XM Radios, this...

Cell Phone Suggestions
I think the RazrOur current top contended is Cingular, and the Razr. I normally wouldn’t consider spending that much on a shoephone, but I like its looks, and the features seem pretty nice, and Amazon has a swanky special on them.

Where is the "iPhone"?
Last summer Forbes discussed the possibility that the wireless carriers wanted to sell music themselves and the current Business Week has a great article about what they're up to and asks, "iPod killer?" when looking at this standoff. In an article in Fortune magazine from last year it was discussed that the new, hot Motorola Razor phone was not pleasing to the mobile carriers since all it did was voice and the carriers wanted to sell data services.

Motorola Razor
I'm considering a Motorola RAZR V3 phoneIf you're looking for a durable and compact cameraphone that's loaded with the latest multimedia technology, the new Motorola RAZR V3 phone, now offered by Cingular, may be just up your alley. The phone, made out of aluminum and magnesium and boasting a chemically-etched keypad and hardened glass, can be used internationally with its quad-band capability.

Motorola Razr V3
This blogger is into the Razr on Cingular!
This thing kicks majoy booty over just about everything else out there, in terms of sex appeal. It’s the reigning champeen of “I gotta be seen with that thing”. Motorola really knocked it out of the park when they designed it, but how is the performance? Is the battery life even tolerable? The reception capabilities on the (new and improved) Cingular network? Answers to these and more after the break…

Motorola RAZR V3 for Cingular Review
I can't wait to try this phone after reading this review:
While Cingular may offer the MOTO RAZR V3 for $500 (with two-year contract), they do skimp a bit, as they do not include the nice aluminum case, a Motorola PhoneTools CD nor a USB sync cable, and it only comes with one Bejeweled Demo as the lone game, where retail versions of the RAZR V3 include the missing items, and come with 3 Java games. What they do offer, though, is the cheapest price on the slickest-looking phone available in the US this holiday season. They do lock the quad-band (GSM/GRPS 850/900/1800/1900 MHz) to Cingular service only, but there are stores that provide unlocking service or if you are so inclined, you can probably hack it yourself. Unlocked RAZR V3’s are going for around $650 on eBay.
The packaging is very weak, especially for a phone of this caliber, Motorola’s current flagship model. The phone is boxed like any other Cingular phone, there’s no wow factor at all to give the user of what they are getting. There’s not even a side shot of the phone on the box showing the RAZR slimness. I usually keep product boxes and I’ll probably keep this one, but the box is just flatout plain and boring.
Without question, the biggest draw of the RAZR V3 is the looks. In the incessant Cingular ads, the RAZR slices and dices away, implying razor sharpness when open. What you don’t see in the ads is that the phone is a bit wide. Yes, wide. Not obnoxiously wide, thankfully, but wider than phones that I’ve been used to, namely the Motorola T720 and a Nokia 8290, my last two cellphones. However, I found that it’s still easy to hold even while talking for 30...
I find the Cingular branding to be obnoxious. There’s the cingular logo (at least it’s in white and not over the top) on the back of the phone, and when the phone is in use, the bright orange Cingular logo shows up on the top cover LCD until you close the phone. It’s one thing to have the LCD display the cellular network you are on, but the orange logo turns you into an easily seen walking billboard for them. I’d definitely be interested in learning how to hack the phone...
The WAP and Internet experience on this phone is passable, I’m not one for much WAP use at all, I just can’t stand typing without a keyboard of some sort. Since my Cingular plan is not at all geared towards data usage, I did not try to pair it up and use it as a Bluetooth data modem, which I’m not sure is even possible with this phone.
Yes, even this chic phone isn’t flawless. The front cover does not sit flush with the bottom of the phone. I’m not sure if it’s just my phone, but when closed, the cover sticks up about 1 or 2mm and isn’t smooth when running your fingers up and down. When I push the cover down as much as I can, the cover will sit flush, so it may just be my particular phone (I have yet to see the phone in person at a Cingular store). There also seems like there are some imprints on the LCD screen of the keypad graphics....
