Mobile Blogging
Some mobile blogging, courtesy of VerizonI’m writing this from my car. No, I’m not driving, but we are moving at 60mph on the highway. I’m posting via Macbook, connected via bluetooth to my e815, which is in turn connected to Verizon Wireless. It rocks!

Humming Search
A similar technology, “audio fingerprinting,” which compares slices of audio until a match is found, already is common. MusicBrainz, for example, can go through your MP3 files and try to guess which songs they are so you don’t have to label them yourself. Shazam lets you hold a cellphone up to a speaker and tells you, via SMS, what song is playing. Some Sony Ericsson phones have a similar feature.

Happy Holidays!
Even a vacation may not be a respite from the BlackBerryI am a bit laptop and Blackberry addicted (I’m no longer denying this!) - so you won’t get any posts while I’m on vacation. But you’ll be hearing from me in the New Year.

Jackassery
We’d been at Apple the day before and I was still enjoying some post pitch euphoria. I’d had enough of talking about and selling the tools, I wanted to simply use them - connect, collaborate, create. So I fired up my Mac Book Pro, launched Skype’s video Chat and called Paul (my brother in Idaho). Free call, free wireless and free video.

AU-100 USB Phone
It is a great time of year to get a cheap VoIP USB phoneWhat could be the most favorable time to sell a product in the market than the Christmas? To lure the customers, the market players are coming up with attractive features and prices to sell their VOIP phones. However, I can bet on AU-100 VOIP USB when I came to know that the latest phone would be available for just $6 during the Christmas.

FCC Clears McDowell
Watch next week to see if McDowell, a Republican, listens to Democrats like Ed Markey and keeps himself out of the merger discussions, or whether he bends to chairman Kevin Martin’s wishes and ties the deal up in a big bow for the holidays. Equipment providers like Cisco, who are waiting for the deal to go through so that AT&T can start spending BellSouth money, are likely to give McDowell a ring soon.

Productive Use Of Driving Time
With many states enacting laws restricting cell phone use in the car, you might want to consider a handsfree optionThat being said, you can get a hands-free phone installed, which uses a mounted phone and speakers. Many phones, like the Treo 650, use Bluetooth technology, which allows you to wear a wireless earpiece and talk hands-free. By using these safe options, you can still use your phone to call clients or catch up with friends and family while still keeping your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

Skype Podcast
In this Skype conversation, hosted by Language Lab Unleashed, a group of educators from across the nation (myself included) and a university network administrator, joined Phil Wolff from Skype Journal in a discussion about the use of Skype in the classroom. Much of the discussion was about the now changed plan to discontinue using Skype at SJSU. This conversation occurred after I got of work yesterday. (So, I am not speaking on the university's dime.) Note the quality of the audio. This group conversation occurred using a free software program, Skype, and was recorded on a low end Macintosh computer and low cost audio capture software.

Naked Goes "Global"
Nokia phoneAlthough the U.S. market has proven to be more conservative, Naked cofounder John Harlow, who splits his time between New York and London, says that the end result is inevitably the same. “Sometimes companies here just need a little convincing,” he says, “but they wouldn’t have hired us in the first place if they didn’t want a unique slant.” For example, in November, Naked joined forces with David Bowie to develop a new Web-based music venture from Nokia called Music Recommenders. Forty independent music stores from around the world will create custom-music selections for downloading direct to Nokia phones. “With a program like iTunes, you have no guidance, no one to talk to about the kind of music you’re interested in,” Harlow says. “This is more real, more personal. It’s full-service entertainment.”

Cell Phones Meet VoIP
1) Cell phone service providers have taken the approach to make your existing cell phones to connect to their wireless Internet connection or hotspots. For instance, TalkPlus launched the world’s first cellular VoIP service in 2005. The service allows people to make VoIP calls with existing cell phones without needing a broadband network. This is a huge advantage compared with the standard VoIP which requires a broadband Internet connection.

Sharing The Internet
You may have heard we got a little bit of snow and ice here in the Seattle area. My Mom tells me everyone back home in TN is asking her how I’m coping with the weather. :) We didn’t really get that much – at least where I live, but the roads did get super icy so the entire city was shut down. And since I work from a home office and had to share my internet connection with thousands of telecommuting workers this week, that meant my productivity also took a hit. Slow loading of web pages is one thing, but since I have Vonage (usually love it), I couldn’t even talk on the phone for a couple days.
