I was a bit surprised and amused at what happened between sessions. At every break time, 24 adults scrambling for their cell phones and BlackBerrys, returning calls and answering emails.

I’m writing this from my car. No, I’m not driving, but we are moving at 60mph on the highway. I’m posting via Macbook, connected via bluetooth to my e815, which is in turn connected to Verizon Wireless. It rocks!

A similar technology, “audio fingerprinting,” which compares slices of audio until a match is found, already is common. MusicBrainz, for example, can go through your MP3 files and try to guess which songs they are so you don’t have to label them yourself. Shazam lets you hold a cellphone up to a speaker and tells you, via SMS, what song is playing. Some Sony Ericsson phones have a similar feature.

I am a bit laptop and Blackberry addicted (I’m no longer denying this!) - so you won’t get any posts while I’m on vacation. But you’ll be hearing from me in the New Year.

That being said, you can get a hands-free phone installed, which uses a mounted phone and speakers. Many phones, like the Treo 650, use Bluetooth technology, which allows you to wear a wireless earpiece and talk hands-free. By using these safe options, you can still use your phone to call clients or catch up with friends and family while still keeping your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

In this Skype conversation, hosted by Language Lab Unleashed, a group of educators from across the nation (myself included) and a university network administrator, joined Phil Wolff from Skype Journal in a discussion about the use of Skype in the classroom. Sunrocket, Inc is a Residential VOIP (Voice over IP) company that provides local, long distance and international calling. They have many different price points for anyone to choose. They even have an India Calling plan that lets you get a rebate of what you paid at the end of the year. Not to bad, and not expensive at all.

For the first night of the entire trip, my Verizon internet service and my Verizon phone are totally out of range. I am writing this at 8:30 Monday night but it will not be posted until we are within range of something, tomorrow we hope.

The National Football League and Verizon Communications have agreed to deliver live NFL Network sports and entertainment programming via Verizon's consumer broadband services, beginning Dec. 7 with the matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns. Verizon already offers the NFL Network television channel to subscribers of its FiOS TV Service and is the only Internet service provider to deliver selected NFL Network programming over broadband.

1) Cell phone service providers have taken the approach to make your existing cell phones to connect to their wireless Internet connection or hotspots. For instance, TalkPlus launched the world’s first cellular VoIP service in 2005. The service allows people to make VoIP calls with existing cell phones without needing a broadband network. This is a huge advantage compared with the standard VoIP which requires a broadband Internet connection.

You may have heard we got a little bit of snow and ice here in the Seattle area. My Mom tells me everyone back home in TN is asking her how I’m coping with the weather. :) We didn’t really get that much – at least where I live, but the roads did get super icy so the entire city was shut down. And since I work from a home office and had to share my internet connection with thousands of telecommuting workers this week, that meant my productivity also took a hit. Slow loading of web pages is one thing, but since I have Vonage (usually love it), I couldn’t even talk on the phone for a couple days.
