Free Global 10 Minute Calling Card
Click through for the free calling card, or buy a calling card hereI’ve always hated day time talk shows, especially since every one of them morphed into one of Jerry Springer’s ugly stepkids and started airing the same “scandalous” content. But Montel Williams is giving away free global 10 minute calling cards so that people can stay in touch with their families over the holidays, which is A-ok in my book!

Black Friday: Palm Treo 700wx
A Palm Treo 700wxA sale flier from the Sprint store here in town sealed the deal, if you buy this weekend you can save an extra $100. So, I got the Palm Treo 700wx (windows version). If I hate the platform, I have 30 days to switch to the more familiar Palm platform.

Blackberry Alternative?
It seems as though a solution may be on the way, however, from a company called Berggi. They have developed a way for cell phone users to send and receive emails through the phone that they probably already have. According to the Berggi site, the service will work with inexpensive phones, even those you might get free with your plan. The service will not, however, work with a Blackberry, Treo of computer style phone.

Nokia The Next Gizmondo?
Is NokiaAn anonymous reader writes, “Yesterday Symbian announced that 100 million Symbian smart phones have shipped to over 250 network operators worldwide since the company’s formation. According to a CNet article, however, Nokia phones running on the OS are actually worse than their non-Symbian predecessors. From the article: ‘The fact is, Nokia’s phones are in danger of turning from the iPods of the phone world into the Gizmondos — from devices dedicated to doing one thing well to jacks-of-all-trades that do too many things poorly. The S60 3rd Edition interface has received tons of criticism from veteran Nokia users for being far too complicated to use. It’s great that there’s new stuff to play with, but not so great that the old stuff, as in making calls and sending texts, has been made more complicated.’”

Miami Nights
Good review of Miami Nights, a cell phone game.
Miami Nights sets you loose as a young man or woman on the streets and bars of the internationally famous city. It is a sequel of sorts to Gameloft’s earlier New York Nights, but is a much more sophisticated game. First you create your character, shape his or her appearance, and choose a desired life goal. Fitting the character of the game, those “goals” are mostly things such as “become a top model” and “become a pop star”, although you can also go for a political career.

Yack, Yack, Yack
I'm seeing the usual suspects like Vonage and SunRocket, but then I see deals from companies like provider ViaTalk who are offering 6 months for free and I'm thinking maybe I should check them out. These guys must be new because I never heard of them until today, but from their site, it looks like their service is almost identical to the major VoIP players out there...and cheaper.

Free Cellphones
I’m sure that the Verizon’s and Cingular’s of the world are loving that comment. No wonder they are choosing their own search platforms and not Google. But not everyone is scared of the big G, at least in Europe.

Greetings From Dublin
We’ve decided on not getting a landline at home, and are instead going with an internet phone. For geeks, our skype handle is nathanielstern (Hilary, this means you can call us for free from Trudy and Dan’s!), and messaging us will “call” our new skype phone once we are online. For non-geeks, all this means is that we will actually have an AMERICAN telephone number you can call - local rates for our US friends, and cheaper calls from SA! Other contact details below. We’ll give out that number to interested parties via email, once we have it.

Treo 750 In USA Before Christmas
Good prices on the Treo 700wLack of Wi-Fi in Treo 750 is an embarassing ommision for European market where unlimited flat rate mobile Internet is not available, but in USA it is not so important because all wireless carriers in USA offer unlimied mobile Internet access… However lack of HSDPA will not be acceptable and since Cingular has just rolled out HSDPA (fast version of UMTS) network in USA and T-Mobile USA has some reservations against Palm smartphones, the only logical conclusion is that Treo 750 will go on sale in USA with HSDPA support pre-installed. HSDPA upgrade for Treo 750v that is on sale now in Europe is still not available officially although Vodafone is operating HSDPA networks since March 2006 already…

Crawlin' On Down Da Road
I’m anxious to try this at the office where BellSouth sez I should have 3 Mbps, though I’ve never clocked it at over about 2.5. Also at a customer’s site where I set up a 6 Mbps DSL link last week that actually clocked at about 8 Mbps. I could feel the difference in that one with my eyes closed, by the way my hair got windblown everytime I clicked on a link. Downloading the Microsoft updates for Windows Server 2003 was almost a pleasure… almost…

Phones And GPS
Click through for the vide of the Nokia E95Here's a video that shows a Nokia N95 with integrated GPS. Since your phone knows where it is, you can send your coordinates to someone else. Instead of having lots of small conversations like, "Hey, I'm under the umbrella," or "If you're at 12th Street, you went too far," your friends can find you at your current longitude and latitude.
