Phone Number Spoofing
This doesn't solve the problem at all! She never addresses that the first CSR was wrong in telling me account info over the phone. I should have told it to her for verification, not the other way around. Also, she doesn't address the fact that the second CSR didn't call into question why I was changing area codes and not mailing address to match. Besides, if I was a thief spoofing the phone number I wouldn't have cared if the CSR changed the phone# on the account or not. I just would've made the caller ID match it. Even if you take the CSR's completely out of the equation it's still a problem. If the thief has my card number he's got my name. A simple reverse phone lookup will show what my phone number is in most cases. One spoof and he's got it. Granted that makes it a little harder, but that's only if the CSR's aren't quite as "giving." So, I guess I now have to guard my phone number as closely as I guard my social security number. That's ridiculous!

In the US, landline phone subscribers can pay a small fee to exclude their number from the directory. This service is usually called "Your Listing Not Published" and the cost ranges between $0.80 to $1.50 for residential customers.

Find out reverse phone information can be tricky but as long as you have a quality program / service which gives you the best and most reliable information, you should be fine.

Hi,
I am a aware of a nice site that has the ability to do a Cell Phone Trace and other reverse lookup features.

Hello, I have a small question. Is there any way to trace who's been calling under spoofed numbers? I have been the subject of quite a large number of such calls - and for a lot of the numbers shown on my phone display, or recorded by my France telecom answering service the numbers 'did not exist' when I tried calling back. Never any message when I was away when the calls were placed, - and never anyone speaking if I replied. In the beginning a lot of the numbers were from shops that would never call me (and that I had never called) - and no messages left. Lately the numbers have all been, as said, non-existing or simply non-traceable by any standard listing services. Always the same. Also, at times the number retained by the phone answering service of France telecom was not the same as the number listed on my phone. Generally the number retained was a number that made no sense at all, being eg something like 0061 + 6 more digits (which makes no sense in French phone numbers). I have quite a good idea about the caller's identity. I just would really like to be able to prove it - and without hiring a private detective which would be beyond my means. I'm not having a grudge against the putative caller or anything (the one I think it is), and I also believe the person did not call with any mean intention - I just really would like to know for sure this person's identity. Because it would help me understand. So, please, people, if you can come up with any suggestions for how to find out the ID of a spoofing caller, please let me know. Equally, if you could tell me if there is a way (short of hiring a detective) to find out the identity of numbers that do exist (meaning one can call them back) but are not listed anywhere, I'd be very glad. Sometimes I wish I were a computer scientist... Thanks a lot in advance,
EJ
