Gee, I Wanna Live in Provo!

Internet providers generally offer slower uplink speeds because most consumers use more bandwidth downloading than uploading.

I happened upon a link to this article on municipally-owned broadband, with Provo, Utah as an example of a successful fiber rollout. Wow, 3 Mbps symmetrical up-and-download speeds! I’d love to have that. Right now, I’ve got 3 Mbps down/256kbps up (Charter Cable), and wish I had a more-symmetrical connection. With VoIP and other home server applications becoming more popular, cable and DSL providers are getting pressure from consumers (well, some of us) to provide more upload speeds. Comcast just announced upgrades to 384 kbps upstream...
